Across Africa, agriculture is more than food production—it is a pathway to improved nutrition, women’s socio-economic empowerment and resilient community livelihoods. Yet, despite its central role, agricultural systems often overlook the critical intersection which is the link between gender and nutrition.

Tymax Agribusiness Solutions Limited in partnership with Tanager is changing this reality by providing technical assistance to African agricultural institutions through the Impacting Gender and Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture Plus (IGNITE+) project. Implemented in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, IGNITE+ is supporting these institutions to integrate gender and nutrition-sensitive approaches into their operations and agricultural interventions.

To ensure continued delivery of technical assistance beyond the project’s close, Tymax Agribusiness Solutions Limited —the IGNITE+ local service provider in Kenya and Tanzania is driving transformation and building strategic partnerships with African Agricultural Institutions to integrate gender and nutrition into their work. By combining Tymax’s local expertise and strong networks bridging the local context and industry experience in transformation of food systems with Tanager’s technical expertise in gender and nutrition, IGNITE+ is fostering practical, scalable and locally driven solutions that strengthen food systems and empower communities.

Through this partnership, Tymax Agribusiness Solutions Limited will deliver tailored gender and nutrition technical assistance to Africa Bioenergy Program Limited (ABPL), Conservation International – TWENDE Project and Practical Action and Tanzania’s AAIs including the Agricultural Non-state Actors Forum (ASNAF) and Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (AGCOT). A diagnostic assessment is usually conducted to help these agricultural institutions identify gaps and opportunities for gender and nutrition technical assistance. Based on the findings, Tymax and Tanager provides tailored technical assistance and capacity building to ensure that gender equity and nutrition sensitive approaches are embedded within the institution and at programmatic level.

In the future, IGNITE+ anticipates expanding its client base in Kenya and Tanzania, influencing more agricultural institutions to adopt gender- and nutrition-sensitive approaches. The project has demonstrated that when gender and nutrition are prioritized, agricultural systems do not just grow food but also build healthier, more equitable and more resilient societies.
